Winter 2020 Season Update

Winter 2020 Season Update 960 1280 Marrickville Football Club

Dear Members,
Well done to all teams for completing Round 7 – the half-way point of the adjusted Winter 2020 Football Season.

Huge Effort – THANK YOU!!
It’s been a unique season for many reasons and, on behalf of the Club’s Management Committee, I would like to thank everyone for your cooperation to keep community sport playing.

In support of National, State and Local Government Health guidelines, the Club has had visits from NSW Police and is in communication with NSW Public Health to ensure COVID-19 social distancing and operational procedures are in place. The great news is that through the combined efforts of everyone, your Club is complying with all our obligations.

The Club also extends a big thankyou to the members who have helped keep Mackey and Steel Parks operable with their volunteer duties.

Season Progress
There are 7 more rounds with the season’s last games scheduled for Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th October. For non-competitive age groups (U6 – U11) the season will continue as it has in prior years with teams playing their rounds.
For competitive age groups (U12 – adults) each age/division champions will be determined on the first past the post approach which takes into account all 14 Rounds. It’s a reminder that there will be NO final series for Winter 2020.

Changes to Community Club interactions with Academies
Marrickville FC is required to update its members with operational changes that apply to all 26 Community Clubs affiliated to play football within the Canterbury District Soccer Football Association (CDSFA or Association).

What are the changes?

The changes are addressed in the Association’s Role of Academies Policy.

The Policy’s aim is to set clear separation parameters and provide guidance on interactions between not-for-profit, volunteer-based Community Clubs (Marrickville FC) and commercial orientated, privately owned Private Enterprise Academies, including RDFA.

In simple terms, player/coach skill development programs, as well as team training and game day development programs, can ONLY be offered through Community Club managed and delivered programs. This means football services will be offered in line with a cost recovery model that will benefit the Club’s members.

When do the changes come into effect?
The separation of Private Enterprise Academies takes full effect from 01 January, 2021.

The good news for all Club members, is that Marrickville FC will continue to support existing RDFA arrangements for the remainder of the Winter 2020 Season – both those between RDFA and RDFA customers as well as RDFA and Marrickville FC.

The implementation of the Policy will change operations for both Marrickville FC and RDFA. Marrickville FC acknowledges this successful partnership which has resulted in positive football development outcomes.  We wish RDFA all the best as it charts a new course and thank the team for their contribution to Marrickville FC.

What does this mean for me – new offerings?
Marrickville FC is currently exploring options for our own range of exciting player, coach and  team football development services moving forward.

As the preparation for these new services materialise, details will be communicated in time for you to consider and plan your winter  2020 football options including trials in November 2020.

What can be shared is that Marrickville FC is close to finalising arrangements with Inner West Council for the return of our outdoor Marrickville  Football 5 Summer (F5S) competition for summer 2020-21. The even better news is that we’ve taken on board the community’s feedback and it will return renewed in an improved competition. More to come shortly!

If you have any queries with the season or changes arising from implementation of Role of Academy Policy, please email the Club on info@marrickvillefc.org.au

See you at Mackey and Steel for the next Round of games!!

With Regards,
